Karate is a popular martial art sport. Its homeland is Japan. The word "karate" translates to "empty hands". Karate is a type of martial art that focuses on self-defense and striking sensitive areas of the body with hands or feet. The modern rules of karate were developed based on the refinement of Japanese jujitsu and other martial arts in the early 20th century. The initial techniques and rules were created by Gichin Funakoshi. Karate practitioners compete individually or in teams on an 8x8 meter mat, and winners are determined based on the points awarded for successful strikes.
