In the 50s of the 20th century, the construction of large metallurgical plants was planned in Uzbekistan, and in the 60s, the implementation of this plan was started. In particular, the Almalyk mining and metallurgical combine, the Chodak, Angren, Marjonbulok gold refining factories belonging to the "Uzbekoltin" association, and later the Navoi mining and metallurgical combine were built. During this period, the Bekobad metallurgical plant and the Chirchik plant for the production of refractory and difficult-to-melt metals (tungsten and molybdenum) were operating. The training of specialists - engineer metallurgists to work in these factories became the demand of the time.

This task is entrusted to the Faculty of Mining within the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute (now Tashkent State Technical University). In this regard, in 1961 in the city of Almalyk, in the evening, in 1962, in Tashkent, applicants for the specialty "Metallurgy of non-ferrous metals" were accepted, and the training of engineer metallurgists was started.
