About the direction

The Bachelor of Science in Drone Technologies Engineering at Al-Khwarizmi University is one of the first specialized programs in the region dedicated to the engineering, innovation, and application of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This interdisciplinary degree empowers students to lead in the fast-growing drone and autonomous systems industry — combining aerospace engineering, robotics, AI, and systems design in one comprehensive program.

About the Program

This program applies core principles of science and engineering to the design, analysis, and deployment of aerial and autonomous systems — from concept to real-world testing. Through hands-on lab work, simulation environments, and field projects, students gain critical experience in building the next generation of smart drones and aerial vehicles.

Students will explore two main pathways:

  • Aerial Systems Engineering: focusing on drones, UAVs, multirotor and fixed-wing aircraft operating within the Earth’s atmosphere.
  • Autonomous Intelligence & Control: centered on AI-driven flight systems, autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and mission-specific payloads.

Key Areas of Study

  • Flight Mechanics & Aerodynamics
  • Drone Design, Materials & Structures
  • Embedded Systems & Real-time Processing
  • AI & Machine Learning in Autonomous Control
  • Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC)
  • Computer Vision & Sensor Fusion
  • Power Systems & Propulsion
  • Communication Systems & Remote Operations
  • Regulations, Safety, and Ethical Deployment

Hands-on Learning Environment

Students will work in cutting-edge labs and open test fields, with access to:

  • Simulation & CAD labs
  • Aerodynamics tunnels & propulsion testbeds
  • Autonomous flight test zones
  • Electronics and control systems workshops
  • Collaborative research hubs integrating AI, IoT, and Robotics

Capstone projects and internships will connect students to national defense, agriculture, logistics, and emergency response sectors, where drone applications are transforming industries.

Career Prospects

Graduates will be positioned for exciting roles such as:

  • UAS Design Engineer
  • Drone Operations Manager
  • AI and Robotics Systems Developer
  • Flight Test Analyst
  • Autonomous Systems Specialist
  • R&D Engineer in Aerospace and Defense

They may work in aviation, agriculture, mining, security, telecommunications, environmental monitoring, and many more sectors, or pursue graduate study in aerospace, robotics, or intelligent systems.
