Based on the decree of the President of Uzbekistan, it was established on March 15, 1992 in the city of Gulistan on the basis of the Syrdarya Pedagogical Institute (founded in 1966). Gafur Ghulam was given the name on July 17, 1966. The university has philology, physics-mathematics, history, pedagogy, natural sciences, economics, additional education faculties, 23 departments, 19 scientific and educational laboratories, workshop, herbarium, botanical garden, zoology, history and literature museums, spiritual room, sports field and hall. there is a language learning center, a business school, a library (more than 330,000 works are stored), a Khojamushkent educational field practice base, and a Navbahor educational experiment site (2001). The university has 2 academic lyceums and a professional development institute, and a printing house. Publishes newspapers and magazines. On the basis of Instituternet, it communicates with scientific centers and educational institutions of more than 10 developed countries. The university has 20 specialties (Uzbek philology, Russian philology, English language and literature, Kazakh philology, history, state law, mathematics, applied mathematics and informatics, physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, pedagogy and primary education methods, drawing and visual arts, general trains specialists in technical and labor, agricultural mechanization, physical culture, economy, agrochemistry and soil science, accounting and auditing). Since 1993, the post-graduate course has been operating. The university prepares graduate students in 7 fields and masters in 5 fields. In the academic year 2001/2002, 2664 students studied at the university, more than 200 teachers, including 10 doctors of science and professors, more than 100 candidates of science and associate professors worked.
