About university

About Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT)

Westminster International University in Tashkent was established in January 2002 on the initiative of the first President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, and is the first international university in the country. WIUT combines a Western-style education with British academic quality. Graduates receive diplomas awarded by Westminster University, London. The university provides full facilities for academic and social development. Its library houses over 42,000 books and offers access to globally recognized online academic resources. WIUT offers 7 undergraduate programs and 12 master’s programs. Among the 150 academic staff, 59 hold a PhD, and 37 foreign professors are employed.


Undergraduate Program

Undergraduate studies at WIUT start with the International Foundation Studies (CIFS) program, considered the first year of the university. CIFS is the same for all first-year students. Upon successful completion, students choose their preferred major and continue studying in that field for three additional years. WIUT bachelor’s degrees are recognized both in Uzbekistan and internationally.


Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • C or higher in GCSE “O” Level / IGCSE English; or
  • IELTS overall 6.0 or higher (minimum 5.0 in writing); or
  • Successful completion of the Basic of English for Academic Purpose module at Level 2 of WIUT Pre-Foundation.


WIUT also accepts TOEFL iBT (in-person) results. TOEFL “My Best Scores” are accepted if they relate to iBT results.

⚠️ Note: TOEFL Home Edition (online test) is not accepted for undergraduate admission.

Minimum TOEFL requirements: overall 78, writing at least 17.


Mathematics Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in mathematics through one of the following:

  • Successful completion of the WIUT Entrance Math Exam approved by Westminster University; or
  • C or higher in GCSE “O” Level Math or equivalent; or
  • SAT Mathematics component score of 570; or
  • Successful completion of Basic of Quantitative Skills (BAQS) at Level 2 Pre-Foundation; or
  • Average grade of at least 4 in Mathematics (Geometry and Algebra) in Levels 1 and 2 of the WIUT Academic Lyceum.


Age requirement: Applicants are generally expected to be 17 years old at the start of the academic year.

Applications are usually reviewed based on documents submitted to the WIUT admissions system.


Master’s Programs

Master’s courses are taught by experts with international experience.

Master’s Admission Requirements:

Applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • First or second degree (or equivalent) taught and assessed in English; or
  • IELTS overall 6.5, minimum 6.0 in writing, or another English test recognized by Westminster University; or
  • Required pass level in the Preparatory Language Course for Master’s programs.

WIUT also accepts TOEFL iBT (in-person) results. TOEFL “My Best Scores” are accepted if they relate to iBT results.

  • Minimum TOEFL requirements: overall 88, writing at least 21.

Students must cover living costs in the partner university country (visa, accommodation, transportation, daily expenses, etc.). Costs vary depending on the country.

📌 Semester 1:

WIUT International Department sends an email with all necessary information and the application form.

📌 Semester 2:

WIUT International Department sends information about an Information Session on the Student Exchange Programme at partner institutions.

💰 Tuition Fees

Students participating in the Student Exchange Programme at a partner institution do not pay additional tuition fees, but they must complete WIUT tuition payment in full before departure.


2026 Summer School – University of Westminster

University of Westminster (London, UK) offers the London International Summer School in 2026. Duration: 3 or 6 weeks.

  • Session 1: 13 June – 4 July
  • Session 2: 4 July – 25 July
  • Session 1 & 2: 13 June – 25 July (if attending both sessions)

Application deadlines:

  • Session 1 and 1 & 2: 23 April 2026
  • Session 2: 1 May 2026

Students will gain international experience, acquire new skills, and explore London.


Student Accommodation

💰 Accommodation Charges

Standard accommodation fee for WIUT halls for 2025–2026: 800,000 UZS per month.

Payment can be made once or in two equal installments for the full tenancy period (academic year). To secure accommodation, an advance payment is required:

  • 4 months: 3,200,000 UZS
  • 8 months: 6,400,000 UZS

High demand for university housing makes allocation very competitive. Early online application submission is recommended.

Grants and Scholarships

WIUT Scholarship Programme

WIUT offers a scholarship for citizens of Uzbekistan who are admitted to the Certificate in International Foundation Studies (CIFS) programme. The scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees.

The selection process takes place in two stages: based on the results of the WIUT Entrance Math Exam and IELTS. The best candidates are invited to take a paper-based mathematics test to compete for the scholarship.WIUT annually offers 30 scholarships to support the most talented students from Uzbekistan as part of its social responsibility strategy. The scholarships are funded from WIUT’s own resources, and their number is determined by the University’s Executive Team.

For self-funded students:

Students who are included in the Dean’s List (including those who graduate from the Foundation programme with distinction) receive a 15% discount. This is intended to encourage better academic performance and provide social support.

WIUT (Westminster International University in Tashkent) Scholarship Programme

Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) offers the WIUT Scholarship Programme, which provides a 100% tuition fee waiver for citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan admitted to the Certificate in International Foundation Studies (CIFS) programme.

The scholarship selection process is conducted in two stages: based on the results of the WIUT Entrance Mathematics Exam and IELTS scores. The top candidates will be invited to sit a written mathematics exam to compete for scholarship places.

Conditions of the WIUT Scholarship Programme:

  • WIUT annually offers 30 scholarships to support the most talented applicants from Uzbekistan as part of the university’s social responsibility strategy. The scholarships are funded from WIUT’s own resources, and the number of available scholarships is determined by the University’s Executive Team.
  • The WIUT Scholarship — provides a 100% tuition fee waiver for citizens of Uzbekistan enrolling in Level 3 (CIFS).
  • Applicants must indicate their intention to apply for the scholarship when submitting their university application. This requires completing the relevant sections in the Admission Portal.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on English language proficiency (IELTS only) and the WIUT Entrance Mathematics Exam. The weighting is: 60% IELTS and 40% Mathematics.
  • Only the top 30 candidates with the highest scores will receive scholarships. If any candidate declines, the scholarship will not be reassigned to candidates outside the top 30.
  • There are 30 scholarship places available at Level 3. To retain scholarship privileges at subsequent levels, students must demonstrate high academic performance, confirmed by achieving a CIFS certificate with Distinction or being included in the Dean’s List (for all undergraduate levels). Failure to meet these requirements will result in the loss of the scholarship.
  • In accordance with Resolution No. 417 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan dated June 2, 2018, a procedure was established for admitting persons with disabilities (Groups 1 and 2) to additional scholarship places in higher education institutions. Since the 2020–2021 academic year, WIUT has allocated 2 places for this category. Scholarships are awarded based on the two highest entrance exam scores and confirmation of low-income family status.
  • To encourage applicants who have completed full military service and demonstrated patriotism, WIUT has introduced additional scholarship places, provided that the student progresses to the next academic level. Otherwise, the scholarship will be revoked.

The University reserves the right to reject any scholarship application if a candidate does not meet at least one of WIUT’s requirements.

The WIUT Executive Board may introduce new or cancel existing special scholarships depending on the university’s performance or financial position.
